45 students from grades K-8 showed what it takes to treat St. Croix
animals humanely at the 1st
Annual Animal Care Exposition (A.C.E) held at the Dept. of
Agriculture Grounds on Nov 6th.
Presentations which demonstrated the best research received cash
awards in each of three divisions K-2, 3-5 and 6-8th. In
addition to a glass plaque from Mitchell Larsen Studio 1st
place received $100, 2nd
place $50 and 3rd
place $20. Entries in 4th-6th
place also received honorable mention ribbons.

are very excited about the student participation and appreciate their
help in raising community awareness regarding animal welfare issues
in the Territory. We look forward to growing this event and
increasing participation next year,” said Gretchen Sherrill
Director of the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center and co-sponsor of the
addition to the competition the VI National Guard provided a climbing
wall, donkey rides were provided by Stephen O'Dae and music was
provided by King Derby's young calypso group. The Coral Reef Humane
Learning Center presented a puppet show that demonstrated the
importance of respecting our sea life and coral reefs.
Expo was possible because of support from Paternity and Child Support
Division, The Buccaneer, Mitchel Larsen Studios, the USVI Department
of Agriculture, Gold Coast Yachts, Valance Company, 21st
Century Learning Grant, Cruzan Environmental Services, Sports Plus
Johnson Electric and the VI Waste Management Authority.
